Today, SABIC, a global diversified chemical enterprise, announced the launch of a new NORYL™ based on post consumer recycled materials (PCR) Resin technology. The product formula of this technology contains over 25% PCR components, aiming to provide customers with more sustainable solution choices. This technology has been certified in practice and multiple brands have been put on the market, including NORYL NH5120RC3 resin containing 30% PCR component. Compared with existing fossil based similar products, the global warming potential (GWP) of NORYL NH5120RC3 resin has been reduced by 10%.
This new PCR based technology can be integrated into over 200 existing NORYL resin grades or added to multiple new grades according to specific customer needs. This type of brand includes two types of products: fiberglass reinforced grade and non reinforced non flame retardant grade. In addition, SABIC can also provide resin customization services that meet specific application requirements, as well as comprehensive technical support services. The new technology based on PCR helps improve the recyclability of products while maintaining the powerful physical properties required in demanding applications. This innovative sustainable solution is one of the first batch of material technologies based on polyphenyl ether(PPE) with high post consumer recycling content.
In addition, we are also the industry's first enterprise to use a chemical upgrade recycling process for disposable polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles, and we are also striving to expand the application range of bio based raw materials in our products. New Challenge in Production Process - Engineering Thermoplastics Based on PCR
"Developing PPE materials containing a high proportion of recycled materials is not an easy task. This means that we have to solve a series of technical challenges. According to specific application requirements, customers can use our new PCR based technology to replace existing fossil based NORYL products, and achieve the required performance while reducing Carbon footprint."
The new NORYL NH5120RC3 resin has chlorine free and bromine free flame retardancy, further enhancing its sustainability. This material is suitable for electrical applications such as heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC) enclosures and photovoltaic/solar junction boxes. In the test of a sample with a thickness of 1.5 millimeters, its UL94 flame retardant rating was V1. In addition, this resin also achieves a good balance between flowability, thermal performance, and creep resistance.
