TPU is the abbreviation of Thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer rubber. TPU has overcome many defects of PVC, PU leather, and PU coating, making significant breakthroughs in the application of waterproof and breathable fabrics. TPU not only possesses most of the characteristics of rubber and ordinary plastic, but also has excellent comprehensive physical and chemical properties. It is a new type of polymer environmentally friendly material that lies between rubber and plastic, with both the softness of rubber and the hardness of hard plastic.
TPU is mainly divided into polyester and polyether types, with a wide hardness range (60HA-85HD), wear resistance, oil resistance, transparency, and good elasticity. It is widely used in daily necessities, sports goods, toys, decorative materials, and other fields. Halogen-free flame retardant TPU can also replace soft PVC to meet environmental requirements in more and more fields.
The so-called elastomer refers to a polymer material with a glass transition temperature lower than the room temperature, an elongation at break greater than 50%, and good recovery after external force removal. Polyurethane elastomers are a special category of elastomers, with a wide range of hardness and performance. Therefore, polyurethane elastomers are a type of polymer material that lies between rubber and plastic.
It can be heated and plasticized, with little or no cross-linking in chemical structure. Its molecules are basically linear, but there is a certain degree of physical cross-linking. This type of polyurethane is called TPU.
